Stop shouting at me on social

Hey up!
I'm sat in my usual seat in Cafe Nero over in Lytham today.

It's a rainy and very windy day so I'm not going far.

My trip back to Derby isn't looking promising so it's the ideal time to hunker down and get some work done while the storm passes.

Hmm, that's kinda like what I've been doing lately with my reinvention.

Doing the work while the storm passes.

Not outer work, inner work.

Without distractions.

I took a mini-hiatus away from social media over the weekend.

I'm doing this regularly it seems.

It hit me that I was just going round in circles.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter...

You get the picture.

If you have a smartphone, I know you've done the same.

I jumped back onto Facebook this morning after being away and I couldn't believe how I felt.

Heavy, sad, anxious and also like I was being shouted at.

Every man and his guru was telling me to "hustle", do the work, make sure you do this if you want to be successful, write copy like this, sell like that.

What a load of rubbish!?

Without even realising, we're being shouted at from every social media network we're on by people telling us how to live our lives and run our businesses.

Now, yours may not be set up like that but I'm pretty sure there's at least one motivational account you follow that's telling you it's Monday and it's time to do something.

Even worse.

Opinions... opinions everywhere!!!

Well, I'm done with that.

It's why I love email so much.

Because I can drown out the noise and read what I want, when I want, from whom I want to hear from.

Anyway, the reason I'm letting you know this is to give you a little nudge (not shout at you) to remind you that your inner voice is more powerful than all the gurus, social media and motivational gubbins.

That tiny voice that's always there.

Sometimes, it's a bit of a bugger and tells you nasty things but most of the time, if you let it, it's telling you the right things you need to hear.

Call it ego, call it intuition, call it the Universe but whatever you call it, it's yours and it knows you... because IT IS YOU.

Sometimes, we look outside to be fulfilled within.

Our environment is a wonderful place to be but if we're not where we want to me in life, we can look outside too much.

Stress is the difference between our internal wishes and the outside manifestation of those wishes.

Yup, that driving force you have inside wants more but the outside world hasn't caught up yet.

And this is exacerbated by social media.

Not just FOMO but the constant messages of doing more, work harder...

I was like this.

I got myself into a right old state about wanting more and progressing.

In the end, I was burned out.

And that's when I knew it was time to stop.

Turn everything off and take a moment.

Yup, it’s easier said than done but it’s worth it.

So after you’ve read this, take a moment to breathe in and out.

Drop your shoulders from around your ears. Yeah, I know you do that.

Take a big old breath right down to your stomach.

And just sit for a second.

Listen for what to do next from inside.

Ignore the social noise and act from within.

Hope this is a tiny nudge in the right direction for you.

And as always, we all go up together.

Much love,
